Easter in the East

By Liv Seller

In the Eastern Suburbs, long weekends are more than just a calendar break; they are an opportunity to embrace the vibrant lifestyle this pocket of Sydney is known for. Whether you are looking for gourmet feasts, family-friendly fun, or a lively local buzz, the East has plenty to offer for the 2026 Easter season.

Here is your curated guide to celebrating Easter at some of our favourite local spots.

Nothing says Easter like Hot Cross Buns, and Baker Bleu is bringing back its crowd favourites by popular demand. You can stock up on their Traditional Hot Cross Buns ($25.20 for a 6-pack), crafted with sourdough, fresh orange, and spices. For those seeking something more indulgent, their Sour Cherry & Dark Chocolate buns ($28.20 for a 6-pack) are a must-try.

For the ultimate chocolate lovers, Gelato Messina is bringing back its legendary 1kg Easter Egg for 2026. It is set to be, in their words, ‘an irresponsible amount of decadence’, making it the perfect centrepiece for any Easter celebration.

If you cannot decide between buns and gelato, Mapo Bondi has the ultimate solution. Aware the “season” has already begun, they have released a special collaboration featuring A.P. Bread’s famously perfect Hot Cross Buns stuffed with Mapo’s signature creamy Aussie milk gelato. This spiced special is available now through Easter, or until sold out, so don’t wait until the long weekend to grab a scoop.

The kitchen will be playing host to three acclaimed chefs, Natthai Pun, Billy Wong, and Jean-Paul El Tom; presenting three-course menus that celebrate their unique culinary heritage against the backdrop of the Pacific.

A Feast at The Paddington

And for the full carnival experience, the Sydney Royal Easter Show at Moore Park remains a staple, featuring an animal nursery, comedy shows, and its own legendary egg hunt.
