Wining and Dining – Woollahra Style

By Danielle Banton

Woollahra – The Aboriginal word for ‘camp’ or ‘meeting spot’, true to its name Woollahra is certainly one of Sydney’s most glamorous and upmarket places to eat and meet. With a dazzling selection of gourmet restaurants, bars and hotels – Mat Moran’s, The Chiswick stands out from the crowd.

As you step across the lush grounds past the stone waterfall you are immediately transported into a bygone era, reminiscent of New Orleans in the 1800’s. The venue is divided into a bar area (doesn’t take reservations) and, long white dining room where tables are framed by huge sash windows, allowing the Spring sun to stream in and put you at ease.

Matt Moran has designed a seasonal menu. Ingredients from the kitchen garden are incorporated in the menu, reflecting the integrity of the produce. The Lamb is said to become a local favourite and comes off the Moran family property just outside of Bathurst, it is served as a whole roasted shoulder on a bed of chickpea puree.

Gavin Rubenstein sales executive at Ray White Double Bay as well as an avid food lover had this to say ‘The Chiswick is an institution in Woollahra – although a very casual place, attracts some of Sydney’s biggest foodies and high flyers’.

Not to be missed – Chiswicks will be hosting a wine and fine dinning evening showcasing the produce of boutique operation, Woods Crampton on 25 August 2015.
